A beginner class is always a good idea

I know some of you may groan. You may have been doing Pilates for several months or even years and have made the journey from beginner classes to the exciting world of Intermediate with your roll ups, hip twists and rollovers… we love a good rollover! However, it doesn’t mean that there will never be a place in your routine for a Beginner’s class again. Absolutely not!

Mastering the fundamentals, as we know, is super important in Pilates. Not only does it mean that we’re less likely to cause injury by doing something wrong, it also enables us to get the most out of each exercise, otherwise, what’s the point?! If you’re new to Pilates, getting to grips with fundamentals is a must! Either opting for a beginner back-care class or sticking to the modified options in a mixed ability class will ensure you build your Pilates technique slowly but effectively and become stronger because of it.

Even for long standing Pilates People, although it may be fun to go for the more advanced exercises (and of course I do encourage this in my classes as well), there’s nothing more beneficial than going back to basics. Even if it’s just for one class every now and then. You can take time to check in with your body and ensure those fundamentals are still there. As well as improving your intermediate work (and probably increasing your enjoyment of it too), you might even be surprised at how hard you still have to work in a beginner’s class… I always am and I usually find, the simpler the exercise, the better!

See you on the mat,
